Description: Jennifer Cartte joins us this week with a wealth of knowledge and experience from both the legislative / court system and the law enforcement / criminal justice system. Jennifer discussed how she transitioned from the Virginia House of Delegates to her current position as a crime analyst, as well as the skill sets that transferred over. Jennifer has analytical experience with both a local police department and university police department which come with their own unique set of crimes; for this episode, Jennifer went into detail about her work regarding the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (commonly known as the Clery Act), which requires public and private colleges and universities to disclose crimes that occur on or near the campus. Jennifer is currently a crime analyst for the University of Virginia.

Description: Urbanization and gentrification can affect crime rates as much as it affects the housing market and resident demographics. In this episode, Jaime Argueta explains how his research addresses such topics along with gaining officers’ confidence through the process. Jaime briefly discusses criminal behavior and geographic profiling as part of theft cases he’s worked on. Jaime is an avid learner, interning for the Kingston Police Department in 2015, Mohonk Preserve researching at-risk youth in 2016, and an undergraduate research assistant for the Marist College between 2014-2017. Jaime is currently a crime analyst for the metro division for the King County’s Sheriff’s Office as well as a doctoral researcher for the University of Cincinnati.

In this week’s episode, Andrew Huellemeier shares how his military intelligence experience helped him be successful in his current position as a civilian criminal intelligence analyst with a county sheriff’s office; in addition, he shares the similarities and differences between the two types of intelligence. Andrew reminisces about the days where he was a Chief of Squadron Intelligence where he led a team of three individuals responsible for ensuring situational awareness of 80 individuals, a Senior Intelligence Officer for an entire base where he collaborated with four allied nations, and as an Intelligence Officer where he developed new training plans, created and gave briefings (with limited prep time!), analyzed current events, and trained personnel on mission critical information. Andrew is currently a Criminal Intelligence Analyst for the Hamilton County (OH) Sheriff’s Office.
