In this episode, we interview Dr. Shelagh Dorn, the current President of the International Association of Law Enforcement Intelligence Analysts (IALEIA) to share her thoughts on the relationship between crime and intelligence analysis, and what the future may look like for IALEIA and IACA. Dr. Dorn gives listeners insight on how she first got involved in analysis, how she built a unit from the ground up, as well as how she helped deliver a baby. This episode is jam-packed with tips and tricks on how to get started in the field as well as how to advance and potentially become a supervisor of an analysis unit. Dr. Shelagh Dorn is currently a professor at Michigan State University and Clemson University as well as the President of IALEIA.

Description: This week we interviewed a founding father of both the Colorado Crime Analysis Association (CCAA) and the International Association of Crime Analysts (IACA), Dale Harris. In this episode, Dale shares his experience of being a crime analyst with the Arvada Police Department for 20 years, how he organized the first intel sharing and training group, and how that led to the creation of the IACA as we know today. We also get an inside look at how the IACA Innovation Award was first created. This episode is not only rich in history but also filled with tips and stories on how to improve efficiency at a department. Jason and Mary also share a moment of appreciation of how different their respective lives would be if certain career decisions weren't made. As IACA President, Mary expresses her gratitude to the numerous committees that keep the IACA running through these difficult times, especially the conference and training committees. Mary encourages all members to vote in this upcoming election which closes on October 31, 2020 as well as how she envisions IACA moving forward. Mary is currently the Crime Analysis Supervisor at the Scottsdale Police Department.
