ATWJE - Ritchie Martinez - The 30 Degrees Analyst
Monday Feb 22, 2021
Monday Feb 22, 2021
Episode: 00043
Release Date: February 22, 2021
Description: Criminal activity, especially ones dealing with drugs and gang activity, rarely stay within a single jurisdiction; thus, coordinated intelligence sharing and deconfliction are prime goals and necessities to investigate these types of crimes and bring people to justice. In this episode, we interview someone who has had over 47 years of investigations and intelligence experience as an undercover deputy, intelligence detective, special agent, and criminal intelligence analyst: Ritchie Martinez. This jam-packed episode features an investigation involving an outlaw motorcycle gang (OMG) where Ritchie and his team served 87 warrants including bringing Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) charges to leading members of the gang; the members of this gang went on to create what we know today as the Hells Angels. Ritchie emphasizes the importance of intelligence sharing and networking across jurisdiction as well as give us a brief history lesson on the creation of the International Association of Law Enforcement Intelligence Analysts (IALEIA), High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA), Regional Information Sharing Systems (RISS), and fusion centers. Ritchie is currently an adjunct instructor at Louisiana State University (LSU), serves on the IALEIA Executive Advisory Board, and is on the IALEIA’s FIAT Steering Committee.
